Organising and Research of New Instrumental music

It took some time to find an original piece of music to suit the the trailer. I went on Jamendo and I came across a piece called 'Feel Good Acoustic Ukulele' by Akashic Records.

I thought this song suits the lively, quirky and sweet elements to the trailer and is very upbeat too.

Drafting Love Note Trailer

This is my Love Note trailer, close to completion. Next I must consider and research new background music which is original and not copy righted.

Organising clips: Outtakes

These are the clips that I didn't include into the final trailer. Whether because they would disrupt the follow of the story, the length of the trailer or that they were irrelevant.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Here's one scene that includes clips I haven't used in the final trailer. This is where Carla first meets Estabon.

Drafting and Planning Love Note Poster and Magazine Cover changes

After taking the photo's, I followed my plan to slice each photo and layer them on top of one another so to separate each time period.

Inspired by the poster for Silver Linings Playbook, instead of the poster being in colour I changed it to grey scale. I found that the coloured version was very distracting and difficult to add extra information whilst making it legible.

So the black and white reflects on the idea of right and wrong (how the notebook can be used for selfless and selfish reasons), it keeps the poster consistent but the clothes make the distinction of the time period and it give another more mysterious side to the story.

Due to this colour change it also changes the target audience slightly; making it less of a young, childish, teenage school rom-com into a whimsical, mature and unique film which may attract an older target audience.

Here is the final version of the Love Note film poster.

The poster is no longer completely grey scale as the hands (and notebook) are kept to their natural colours. This is done so to draw attention to what the hands are signifying. In this case they are expressing love:
  • The first picture has the girl fiddling with her hair in a flirtatious way.
  • The second has the boy placing his hand on his heart which signifies love for others, or in the time period, for his country.
  • The third has the girl lightly fiddling with her bracelet demonstrating a shyer, subtle side to love.
  • And the forth image highlights the significant object of the story which is the notebook. Placing the notebook with the other signals of love makes writing in this book an act of love in itself. The type of love- whether it's selfish or selfless- is down to the audience.

The Love Note logo now has a brown border which contrasts well with the notebooks colours and keeps a natural, light feel to the poster with the support of the pastel pink. I used pink instead of red because the story is not a serious love story, it's very light hearted and quirky which doesn't quite highlight the dangers of love.

I also made links with each section in the poster such as the pen touches both the forth and the third image, and the hair touches the first and the second image. This connects each section, each time zone as they all have something in common and that is the notebook.

The bottom of the poster has the credits and social network sites which keeps the modern image and the young target audience the film attracts.

This is the final version of my Empire magazine.

I made various changes including extra cover lines, a pug featuring extra content in the magazine and re-wording some of the cover lines.

Drafting Love Note Trailer: Improvements and Using Adobe Premier

Some of the elements to the trailer proved effective due to what Premier had to offer, for example:

Overlaying images with the scenes and rearranging the images so to result in an animated effect.

Using text and images to emphasise emotions or information. I was inspired to do this from the trailer Scott Pilgrim VS The World which used animation and graphics. It also helped build the trailer's quirky genre and target audience.

Rearranging sound effects so to provide an distinctive effect, in this case I merged various voices saying "I love you" which provided a spooky and strange atmosphere when hearing it.

I presented this version of the trailer for improvements and so far I need to rearrange some of the 'punctuation', remove the introduction and other scenes and improve the sound arrangements.

Some of these changes are made due to the trailers narrative as it didn't flow very well. So hopefully after these changes the story line will be a lot clearer and obvious to the viewer.

Love Note Poster Photoshoot Organisation

When planning the photo shoot, I intended to find places with blank backgrounds so to emphasize the people involved in the poster.

So far the first image shows a girl with a old fashioned type blouse. Through out the poster each person should represent a type of time zone, for example, from 1910 to 2010. Because of this I want to reflect on how old the book is and the various users that fell for it's abilities. So it's less on the main character Carla, but more on the object that's changed her life.

So far I've taken two types of photos; one with the figure being still and the other with the figure providing some form of body language which reflects love. For example, a girl fiddling with her hair or someone holding their hand on their heart.

This photo will proved the chest area to the poster. The time zone is about the World War period.

Here will display the waist and the time zone is after the War. I wanted to give a loose, older, hippy look which'll then lead to the colour and vibrancy of the 1950s and 60s.

This photo will take place displaying the notebook. I wanted to give a sense of the 1960s due to the vibrant bold colours on the dress.

Love Note Trailer: Drafting and Planning credits and punctuation

I've now improved the slogans in between the clips during the trailer.
The colors are a lot lighter than before where I used dark brown and red. Because of this it provides a less intense and more 'light heart' element.
The font encourages the fantasy side to the story.
I was also inspired by the font used from the poster in 'The Lucky One' which supports the romantic genre.

Now the slogans have changed to 'Take note' 'of the tricks' 'behind love' which directly address the audience; as if to lead them into the secrets of love that nobody else knows.
In that sense, it's like what the protagonist is going through, being tempted by the book which then becomes a center piece of her life.

Planning Empire magazine: Using Adobe Photoshop

During the development of my magazine cover, I used various techniques through Photoshop so to make my magazine as much like a cover of Empire.

Being inspired by the Inception cover of Empire, I used the 'Warp text tool' to adjust the cover lines at an angle which focuses on Carla and the book.

I also changed the colours involved in the photo through using gradients and changing the layers properties.

I decided to give a pinky hue so to suit the romantic theme of the cover and the film. It also fits with the house colours of the magazine: red, dark brown, gold and white.

Photoshop also provided custom shapes which I included as part of the cover. I've seen some Empire magazines with extra shapes to give the cover identity, so in this case I used arrows to link with the angel of love, Cupid.

Researching the best Empire magazine cover towards Potential target audience

After a class vote on which front cover was best, there were 16 votes for the close up of Carla and 2 votes for the long shot.

So now this is my chosen picture for my Empire magazine cover of Love Note.

Drafting Empire magazine cover: Two versions

I edited 2 of my photos so they appear as if they're on the cover of Empire. At the moment I'm struggling to decide which cover I want to take on further.

Empire magazine cover: organising the photo shoot

Today I took photo's for my front cover of Empire magazine. I took on some original ideas as well as some new ones too.
The location is a corridor with a blank wall which allows Amber to stand out in the photo. Having a simple background supports some of Empire's layouts as they too have gradient backgrounds in some of their covers.
The notebook is also involved as the centre piece prop of the story as well as in the cover.
Amber is wearing comfortable, teenage clothes which support her age and the target audience.

Here 'Carla' is hiding herself with the notebook, avoiding anyone to see it's contents but herself. It also shows her shy character as well as her obsession of the notebooks powers.

Here shows a different perspective of her holding the book, as if she's trying to keep it away from anyone's grasp.

This long shot demonstrates a new way of hiding the notebook and highlights her shy character too. It could also fit well as a front cover for Empire magazine as a lot of their covers have a long shot involved.

Another version of  'Carla' hiding behind the notebook, but this time she's facing the camera and her eyes are looking towards something else. I wanted her eye contact away from the audience as this shows that she's always occupying herself with her match making role.

Drafting and Planning Love Note logo

I've come to realise from the last logo for my poster appears to distracting and does not fit with the theme of the poster very well. Therefore I've considered an alternative and simpler logo that would contrast better with the poster. I've combined some fonts together after further inspiration from the poster from The Fault in our Stars. The sketchy, loose writing will hopefully provide a light hearted element to my poster.

Empire magazine cover draft and movie poster plan

This is my first draft of my front cover for Empire magazine. I intend to display the main character Carla as a close up as inspired by the Tron cover for Empire magazine. The cover lines will surround her therefore keeping her the focus. I was also inspired to do this from the Empire cover for Inception. The main cover line will be placed bottom centre and underlined with the string that's connected to the notebook. This gives the cover further identity with the movie, making it very different from any other cover. I hope to place a pug and other conventions that'll make the cover appear like it's from Empire.

Before I began taking photos for my poster, I planned out further how I'm hoping to go about it. I took on an idea of each person with their own body feature to display some sort of body language that signals love. For example, a form of flirting for a girl will be playing with her hair.

I'll consider this idea as I take my photos so to recognise whether it's worth using or too distracting.

Love Note Trailer first draft

I presented my first draft of my trailer to the class and the response was overall positive.

To improve what I've done so far, I must make my trailer appear more like a trailer than just a series of scenes from a film. To achieve this I can insert credits between scenes or shorten the scenes.

Love Note poster draft with new logo

This is to give an idea of what I hope my poster to look similar to.
I might make further changes to the logo and it's placement once I've taken the photos.

I do plan to have each individual wear a period costume so to demonstrate the many years this notebook has lasted.

Drafting developed Love Note logo

I further developed my logo for the trailer 'Love Note' poster. This idea of the V forming into a heart and a pencil I thought to be a great combination as the pencil or pen is the match making tool.

There's less of a combination of fonts compared to my first logo. This allows the V to stand out and emphasise it's meaning to the logo. The font is also bold and modern so to provide a sense of the time the film is taking place.

I'm still considering in using the other logo for something else but I'd like to use this one for the trailer poster.

Drafting and Planning Trailer Credits

I took a snap shot of inserting the credits sequence in the trailer, just to see how it goes. I'm very happy how it appears so far on the trailer, but just some colour alterations are needed to improve.

Love Note Trailer Planning: Editing and arranging the introduction

One of the most complex scenes in the trailer so far is the beginning where Carla enters school so to give the impression that her school days are often chaotic but predictable to her.

I gave various attempts to edit this scene. In this clip I decided to repeat the same scenario so to give a sense of her routine being very repetitive.

I really liked how this looked, so I decided to do this again but 4 times over.

I also added a transition that may not appear to obvious, but demonstrates the chaos of her school mornings. I decided to take advantage of the sheet of paper that hits the screen, which then reveals another clip which continues this scene. I was inspired to do this by the trailer in "Scott Pilgrim VS the world", where a passing man is used as a transition between clips.

Using Adobe Premier- Planning and Editing my Trailer

I've so far managed to edit the clips, included transitions and background music for my trailer.

The timeline allowed me to navigate the order of my clips, insert music, effects and transitions, keeping track of the length of each shot as well as allowing me to shorten and lengthen them.

The bar on the left shows the various clips I've imported. This allowed me drag the clip I like into the left window, then the edited result will be displayed in the right window.

Any transitions or effects I want to use I can drag and drop into the timeline from the effects folders. This has allowed me to blur, dissolve or change the coloring of the clip and much more.

The audio mixer has allowed me to adjust the volume of the clip- from background sounds to foreground sounds. This has proved really helpful for me to turn down any distracting noises like heavy wind and cars.
