First Draft of Love Note Story Board and Shot List

Here is my first initial ideas of how my trailer should follow.

Planning: Trailer locations

I took photo's of the locations around school that I plan to use in my trailer. I'll also be setting a scene in Serahole Mill and my friends bedroom.

As an establishing shot, I'll show the school in the early morning.

Scenes that'll involve more than one person I'll consider using out door locations.

A narrow corridor would be helpful for awkward situations so to build up this mood.

I intend to use this corridor for one of the scenes involving the amount of havoc and movement is involved within getting from A to B around school.

The Autumn, rustic scenery I hope to use when Carla begins ripping up the book. The jagged pillars of trees and the bed of leaves could make the scene appear a comfort to look at, but is also natures way of letting go as is Carla.

I plan on using the common room for some scenes which may involve a bit of socializing and groups of people.

Organising Prop's: The Note Book

This is how I've progressed in laying out the book and it's appearence.

The notebook is leather bound and the paper has an old, fabric like quality which makes it appear ancient. I decided to place 'X's down the centre of ever page. This makes the book unique yet odd and the 'X's will be used as a way to couple people together.
I had damage the book in different ways so for it to appear like it's been treated badly or that it has been used regularly.
The beginning of the book is in fountain pen and the end of the book hopefully appears more modern with the written tools e.g. biro pen.

Casino Royale poster analysis

Casino Royale:

Positions and Clothing:
A theme of sophistication and wealth runs through the poster. James is wearing a clean cut suit yet the buttons and tie are undone; this somehow provides a rebellious attitude to his outfit. This is emphasised again with the wind effect; his clothes are clean, yet there are still small imperfections. This could also relate to his duty as an agent; how he must disguise his identity, appear to be a wealthy, charming man yet he hides the dirty work that goes on behind the scenes.

This idea of hiding can also be demonstrates as his jacket hangs slightly over his gun. There is no emphasis on the gun, nor is it in the eye line of the woman. It is kept away as method of defending who he really is underneath. But James is wise; the gun is only used when necessary. But often, he wants to put up a front as the hero within the drama.

The woman wears a long black dress, somewhat mimicking the shades in James’ clothing. Black resembles class, mystery or death therefore this could reflect upon their personalities. The woman shows little sign of movement, she just stands there watching. This could highlight the fact that James rejects the woman, or is it that she’s haunting the back of his mind. Either way, the angle that she’s placed shows that she is of little interest and instead James concentrates on his duty more than pleasure. Yet her size in the poster could also reflect on her fragility within such an intense and dramatic affair- that only the men could defend and protect. In addition, the black dress is very figure hugging therefore revealing her shape. This supports the beauty of women or to reflect a sex appeal within the poster and the story.

Lighting:
A soft light is used within the setting of the poster. The light is more intense near the top which highlights and supports James’ identity as the hero in the tale. In comparison with the woman, she is shrouded in a misty, less intense lighting. This makes her appear rather spooky or less focused compared to James, therefore she’s unimportant to his role as an agent. The lighting also emphasises the text ‘Casino Royale’ behind James. This supports the location and how James’ life often entails a lot of gambles and risks.

The lighting provides a blue hue which could support the time of day, or the mysterious atmosphere of the poster. The blue also further emphasises James’ blue eyes which is an iconic quality to his image.

Title layout and language:
The title ‘Casino Royale’ fits with the house colours of white, black and blue. The intense white and the wisps coming off the text provide mystery and movement. This could reflect on the idea of ghosts, spirits or disorder. But it could also give a holy sense, especially with the extra emphasis on the ‘007’, as if to give an angelic quality to James’ role.

Of course the ‘007’ is an icon for the film, so slotting it into the logo not only makes the logo more interesting, but appears as if agent 007 is a gambler and a risk taker himself.

The phrase ‘Casino Royale’ refers to the casino -a place of gambling and money- and Royale which could refer to royalty or a king. In this way, by linking with James Bond, he is a gambling king.

Setting and layout:
The poster is set at an entrance to a casino. James is walking down the stair case towards the camera therefore his is turning away from the set. Compared to the woman the temptation to enter is less likely, this highlights the weaknesses of a woman.

The stair case also deciphers the angle of the poster- a slight low angle shot. This supports the heroism of James and his strength in presence. The woman on the other hand is further away but you can see her from her from head to toe. This again reflects on the beauty of a woman. Additionally her shadow casts towards James’ direction therefore giving them a somewhat underline connection. However, shadows often resemble a spooky presence or something that’s hidden from sight, therefore this could resemble the woman’s role in the story.

Poster analysis: Sin City

Sin City:

Text Boxes-
The text boxes follow the house colours of black and white. The simplicity allows them to stand out boldly, but not as a distraction from the character.

The font used is familiar with graphic novels. This provides an action, hero sense to the poster which appals to those who’re interested in comics.

In addition, the language involved supports this unnatural, super person concept linking graphic novels. Through the phrase “She grew up. She filled out” gives us an idea of the character, her being a hard, intense and a powerful woman.

Also by describing her as ‘Skinny little’ supports her youth as well as brings about a sex appeal.

However, the phrase ‘little’ may well give the idea of youth, but also naivety. This could link to the stereotypical blonde personality; that she still has much to learn and experience.

Pose-
Jessica’s pose is very seductive and particular. By her leaning emphasises her figure and her arm poised upwards gives the hair lift as she pulls out her rope, it also frames her face therefore providing it further attention. This supports her character as an extreme, deviant personality.

Although this pose appears sexy, it also emphasises her health, strength and youth. Her position is full of motion; this means that she will be up against a lot of challenging and physical events including fights. This again reveals a super human characteristic to Jessica.

Background, Colour and Editing-
The background reveals a Saloon Door, often seen in Cowboy base films. This could provide an idea of the setting of the movie and reflects upon rebels and fights stereotypically seen in such films.

The colours used throughout the poster are black, white, grey and red. The background mainly involves black and grey which doesn’t distract Nancy’s focus, but reveals an idea of where she is. Black and Grey provide a sense of gloom, darkness and the unknown. This could support the story or the character’s background. In addition, such shades are used in comic books therefore continues this bold, action hero theme.

The white droplets scattered about the top of the poster highlights the bright lighting and the light in Nancy’s hair. The drops disburse from her hair which provides movement. The dots could be interpreted as stars which lightens the dark background. This might demonstrate an idea of hope, turmoil or her fiery personality.

The colour white is used at the bottom of the poster, where the colour is moved as horizontal slashes. This gives emphasis to the title and highlights Nancy’s figure therefore making her stand out.

The layout of the paint, decorating most of the poster, emphasises the action, comic book theme. The paint could also be seen as blood scatters which again provide the idea of violence and fights.

The Title-
The title ‘Sin City’ demonstrates that the film involves rebelling and going against ones conscience. This will reflect the genre of the film and its target audience which may involve older teenagers and young adults.

The bright red helps for the title to stand out as well as reflecting on the idea of sin. Sinning can be considered dangerous, violent and risky. By looking at the red and its intensity is almost off putting for the eyes therefore audience reactions would want to look away from the title and towards Nancy. It is as if to turn away from sin yet the rest of the poster is a lot easier to look at.

Clothes and lighting-
Nancy’s leather clothes reflect the lighting which supports the black and white house colours. The belt, tassels and leather continues the cowboy trend and by using leather allows the light to emphasise the creases on the clothing, as if something from a graphic novel illustration.

Leather also frames the body well so Nancy’s figure is not hidden. This brings a sex appeal and reflects on the characters confidence.

The lighting is so intense that it leaves bold white highlights to the clothing, skin and hair. This reflects on the white splats throughout the poster and creates excitement to the poster.

The overall layout frames Nancy, making her the focal point as she is a star of the show.

When the eye’s scan from top to bottom of the poster, it provides a build up to the title .e.g. The text “Skinny little Nancy Callahan. She Grew up. She Filled out”, then scans down to the picture of Nancy, then to the title “Sin City”. It somewhat makes a drama from a dramatic poster by simply looking at it.

Drafting and Planning for the finding of The Notebook

I will be following this storyboard the best I can so to practice the layout of the location for shooting this scene.

Research into Target Audience: BBFC cetificate

After researching into what different certificates include when rating a film, I decided to rate my film a PG.
A PG Film includes:

- The Film is suitable for general viewing, but not for younger children.
- Any issues in the film are appropriate for the majority of this age group and nothing should upset a child of eight or over.
- It is allowed to explore challenging issues such as racism and domestic violence but drugs and alcohol will not be glamorised and if a young child is seen drinking or smoking then it should be clear to the viewer that this is bad.
- Only mild bad language is allowed. If there is too much or if bad language is used aggressively  then it'll be moved to the next category.
- References to sex are acceptable if the activity talked about or shown is implied and lacking in detail.
- Minimal detail to violence and little blood is allowed, but it should not be shown how the injury is inflicted in strong detail.
- Weapons such as knives should not be glamorised and any potentially dangerous behavior shouldn't be shown
- Illegal drugs or misuse of drugs can be passing but shouldn't be a focus. The film should strongly demonstrate that the use of drugs is wrong.

I decided to go for this certificate as the content can only be understood by older viewers and it is aimed towards teenagers.

Planning locations

I found a location close to a river which I'd thought I'd use for the finding of the notebook. I have the idea of it being swept up on the river side with a trail of paper leading her to the book.
In this way it appears that the book has been abandoned of got rid of, some what providing a warning to the next owner.

I am planning on practising this scene soon to see if the layout is clear and relevant, as well as practicing with the camera angles.

Planning where the book will be found.

The key element of the trailer will be the notebook, so I've been brainstorming how and where it will be found.

I still need to think about where it'll be discovered, but the idea of a paper trail leading the girl to the book might be a consideration.
I've also considered the idea that there maybe some form of warning towards Carla before she picks up the book. For example, if the book was stranded in the middle of a pelican crossing, the red man will light up providing a signal not to cross, but Carla will still take the chance to take the book though she's been warned.
